I was hiking with the family down by our creek when we found this guy hiding against a tree. I think he was old enough to try to fly out of the nest but couldn’t stay aloft. I could not find the nest and didn’t see any parents around, think he survived? First time I ever came across an owl like this, I thought it was pretty cool.

Yeah, he's good. They go to ground just before full fledging, that's why they're called "grounders".
Thanks for the response, that term “grounders” is new to me. Birds of prey are one area of the outdoors that I feel I still have a lot to learn about. They are awesome creatures but I just don’t know as much about birds as I do mammals.
