has anyone here hunted or spent any time in 36B ive got the itch to try coues deer next fall and this looks like the easiest to draw. looks like some sweet but wicked areas on google earth and plenty of places to get away from the roads. everything Ive read seams to state the you need to be aware of the imagration and drug activity but no major concerns just to use some common sense. I know tag numbers are high and sucess rates vary but obviuosly there is a fair number of deer.

Have hunted 36C once. Spotting a coues deer is maddening. They are small, the brush can be tall, and when bedded they seem to disappear behind the smallest of plants. 36B has coues. Look at the harvest rates and compare to the other southern units. Most hunts are around 20% and better depending on the rifle season. Again, spotting the dang things is my biggest challenge. Shots can be well beyond what you need on most western hunts. 400 yards is not unusual as the point to shoot or bust the buck out of the area. There are OTC archery tags in January rut and some arrow a buck so obviously someone gets closer than 400 yards though not that often.

I've hunted mulies in 36B twice. Saw a couple nice coues and several smaller bucks. You don't really need to be that far from the road to spot coues in 36B. Never had any issues with illegals although a couple of border patrol actions did mess up some hunting. I'm not so sure the border patrol bothers to sweep for illegals any more since they just have to turn them loose anyway. I would hunt there for coues without hesitation.

Both times, my wife and I camped alone. Never had any issues but we did have side arms handy at camp. Never heard of anyone having any problems either. Illegals really want to avoid contact in the area. Border Patrol told us they may steal food or water from unattended camps, but as I stated earlier, we never had or heard of any problems.

thanks for the replys, everything you guys mention seems to solidify what else I have heard. Should definately be a fun and no doubt interesting time. from the guys that have been in the area does there seem to be less issues with illegals and drugs towards the northern end of the unit. I assume there are deer in most of the broken country but maybe less rif raf in the northern part.

I've hunted 36B and it is a difficult hunt. Usually hot and always rocky. Right now, it is not wise to pitch a camp and walk away and leave it unattended. It is also not wise to hunt alone in that area. There are some deer, but the illegals have driven most of them high into the hills. Take plenty of water even in October. Best hunting is in and around the Sierra Ancas.

thanks for the info! I think this is something I need to do. My hunting partner sayd i Should focus on the6 or so tags I have for this year before I worry about next but I gotta dream. I told him that just cause you are getting a lap dance it don't mean that you cant look at the one dancing on stage too!
