Unless you're married and your wife doesn't take part in any hunting/camping activities. May as well spend the money to build an additional house for just yourself to live in. Because that's where you will be

Sounds like most all people once they first shoot suppressed

Wouldn't mind to have one but is it worth it to me spend the kind of coin that it takes. I've shot suppressed before at the expense of our taxpayer dollars so my thinking then was not about personal use.

The constant ringing in my left ear says it is 100% worth it. Hearing aids aren’t cheap

If you can convince yourself to always wear ear muffs when shooting even when hunting it’s probably not worth it. Myself I can’t ever remember to do it. I even tried the noise canceling hearing aids because my hearing is bad enough that I should have a hearing aid in my left ear but the wind noise drove me nuts with them.

I use ear pro and my kids use the same. I've tried using the big earmuff style and sometimes you can't get a good cheek weld so I've dropped those a few years ago. These work because you can have them around your neck and you don't lose them, when you're ready and things are about to get going, put them in and go from there. I had an old Master Sergeant tell me years ago to have at least one person in your platoon/team wear a set of ear pro. He couldn't hear a lick.

They have so far. I will say years ago we were doing a force on force exercise at a training facility and they had a mout town with the big shipping containers. They had some of us play the "bad" guys with each of us having aks and blanks. I forgot my ear pro that day and I still cringe from shooting that thing inside of one of those containers without ear pro. My ears rang for a few days. I think that time taught me a lesson.

A suppressor removes so much of the shock both muzzle blast and recoil that it allows for much more comfortable shooting overall. My son (8) can easily shoot my 300 PRC with the can on it. But you do you, it absolutely isn’t a requirement.

I understand what they do. Just don't see how I can justify the cost of what a tag costs for a nonresident in some places. I'm not arguing with anyone. Everyone has their preference of what they use vs not. How much does a decent suppressor cost? Including the tax stamp and everything.

Tax stamp cost goes away 1/1/2026. I'm thinking suppressor cost might start to creep down too. Right now you can buy some pretty decent suppressors in the $600ish range. Some a little cheaper, some a lot more expensive. I bought close to top of the line titanium for $1,100 with the mounting setup. Still have to go through the PITA of doing all the fingerprints, ATF form and all that stuff, just don't have the $200 fee.

I know my oldest wouldn’t shoot at all if it wasn’t for the suppressor.

So maybe one day I could justify it, but I could spend the amount it costs for suppressor to pick up a nonresident tag in some places. At this point I get to go west every other year, it would be nice to do it every year but tag costs also will keep going up too. One of the guys I used to hunt with has a 300 prc and he bought a suppressor and we shot it a few times and the recoil was greatly reduced.
