Can anyone help me understand the application process in Montana? I called this lady and she told me that I had to first apply for a license. If I drew a license, then I have to apply again for the premium tag I'm after. If that fails, I have to hunt a general tag. Is there any way to apply only for a premium hunt?

The answer is no.

You have to draw the deer, elk, or deer/elk combination license first. Then, if you draw one of those you can then apply for limited quota bull tags, cow tags, limited quota deer tags, etc.

If you dont draw the initial license, you're done.
