I picked up one today to add to my collection. It's chambered in .300 Savage and according to the numbers was made in 1954. It's been used plenty and shows wear but well taken care of, not beat up and bore looks good. Came with a cheap scope which I will probably replace with something more period correct like a Weaver K4.

Dad had one when we were kids and I always thought it was cool. It was what he let us use on our first western trips. Somewhere along the way he traded or sold it so I picked this one up for old times sake. Found 60 rounds of 150gr ammo to get it zeroed with as well.

Just curious if anyone else hunts with one? If it shoots well I might shoot a whitetail with it or let one of the kids use it.

I've never owned one but pig hunted in Texas 20 or so years ago with one... I went home one weekend with an Army buddy and that's what his dad let me to use. They are neat rifles for sure.

An older guy I hunt/shoot with had one in 250 savage and a 308 for a while. They are fun guns, wish I had picked up the 250 before he traded it off.

My grandmother used one up until her last deer at 85; 300 Savage. I’ve used my father’s; different than my grandmother’s, when I was a child for a bit. I shot a few deer n turkeys, but I also crippled, at the time, the biggest buck I had ever seen. So, being a kid, I blamed the rifle n never shot it again!
Beautifully elegant rifles

Shot most of my whitetails growing up with a model 99E in .308. It had a "blonde" unfinished stock. Wasn't the prettiest gun but perfectly suited for a teen to drag through the Pennsylvania woods.

My cousin had 1 in 243. Loved it. When ammo was hard to get a few years ago a buddy got one at auction for cheap but no ammo. He couldnt find any. I hit every mom and pop hardware within a few hours till I found one that had 3 boxes. I bought 2. Left 1 for the next guy. He said it shoots.

Also my son n law brought a buddy to bear camp. He had his late grandfather's rifle along. He doesent hunt much anymore and isnt a gun guy. But he grew up doing it. He had a mint 99 in 358 win mag. I offered to buy it on the spot. No dice. I ask every so often and am told if he ever sells it I will be the first to know. For the record I gave him a 30/06 to use for the weekend. Told him I would not drag that 99 through the brush and briars.

Dad started me with a Model 99 .300 Savage with a K4 on a Pachmayr swing down mount. Got my first mule deer with it in 68. I haven't shot it for years but last year I got an itch to hunt whitetail in the Black Hills with it. Got it all ready, ordered bullets. Just have to put a hunt together now.
