Any hockey fans out there?

Glad they got it inked before McJesus. I have to imagine he's going to try for $20m after seeing this.

Expensive, but 97 is who produces goals game after game. Good signing. Now let's get one more great player to be with him
They have 4.4m cap space at the moment and perhaps this will play well for them if the field plays well and the right trade is out there. Having the cap space gives you some solid working room when looking at trades and how they can fit in. You are a loser in the trade right away if you have to eat salary on the deal

I'm hoping they can pick up someone really solid before the deadline. No bottom six forwards, get a top line center or second line winger

There is an all time great Center in Pittsburgh who played HS hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary's, and has a very tradeable contract, and tons of playoff experience that fits the bill. Also, his best friend in the world (Flower) is working with the team after retiring and will be in the facility most days. I'm hoping/wishing Flower is pulling strings behind the scenes to make this happen.

If this is any indication of how Saturdays game will be. It might make watching preseason games more enjoyable

Gus bus for another five years! Seems like a good signing. With the cap going up I think it was a good signing price wise as well.

I love the move and especially since it hasn't been too great for Jesper so far in his career. If Jesper comes on, this isnt the worst having him as number two in the late years of this contract

Fair point. Hopefully he settles into the number two role, but I have a feeling it'll be 3:1 games started between the two of them if gus stays healthy.

From what I've seen so far, Wall needs more polishing and calmness to his game to get a consistent call for being a starter

This season it should be 4 to 1 or even 5 to 1. Gus is in his prime and we need to use him as such.

Name a single time in the history of sports when the absolute best player in the world was up for a new contract and he didn't take a raise to instead focus on his team winning. Hockey is the best sport, period

Sid would like a word... :)

Tom Brady did it literally his entire career.
That cap % column is the only one that matters. He could have asked for a restructure after every SB victory and it would have been justified. Instead he played under modest contracts to allow them to build championship rosters.

Tom Brady was not the MVP and clear best in the league though. His pay cuts were at the back of his career and then restructured to pay him what he was worth. Not at all a good comparison to what McJesus just did.

They did it in Boston and McDavid just did it for Edmonton

ohtani. He signed for a record #, but it's spread out well beyond the length of the contract. He's the #20 in terms of yearly salary. I think you could argue he's up there in terms of value.
