Another WY tag question

I'm still trying to better understand Wyoming's draw process. I'm building up points and don't want to use them yet. I know you can put in for a very tough draw unit, keep your points and rely on second or third choice units. Is there any way you can just put in on the non-preference point draws, not have your points considered to improve your odds, but then have three units to actually try to get a tag in, and your points just stay the same?

You can buy "points only" later in the year, outside the draw.
