Had the day off , wife is still on the night shift. After she went to bed , I picked a BLM spot and went to investigate, big shocker… I’m wandering in the woods again

Completely different terrain, I’m really enjoying the variety of places I can go within 90 min or less of Billings

Pulling up to my BLM

10 or 15 min in I spot antelope

Great views today

The coolest moment of the day , I’m cliffed out looking for a way down and as I look over the edge , I’m directly above a badger den , she saw me and got her babies to come in the den , it was way cool , after I took the pics and they disappeared, I ranged the tree next to her den 22 yds

Caught a muley doe checking me out from 188 yds on my back to the truck

Almost back to the truck I glass a large Prairie section hoping to see more antelope, and saw and old structure off in the distance and went to investigate

Driving out this buck posed for pics 50 yds off the road. All in all I saw 7 antelope does and 4 antelope bucks, not a bad way to enjoy and afternoon off. I did a 3.2 mile loop on this hike

Growing up in Mammoth Hot Springs, YNP, I always made fun of Billings. Then I grew up and lived in New York City, Dallas, Philly… never again made fun of BIL. Young is dumb.

Looks like a fun spring day! Glad you’re enjoying the place. Lots to do & see within an easy drive.

Nice photos Chris, looks like the move is working out for you.
Yes, it is still raining on the coast.

The only thing I miss from Oregon is my friends and family, the beach and the rainy coast range , this was my buddy’s cut he was working last November, there was a herd with a couple bulls that would be in the cut I’m standing in above his job site, everyday, someone else got one of them. I went tag soup last year on my 1st season Roosevelt tag , all the herds I found had spikes , which is a no go on the Saddle Mtn hunt.

Ya , for the first 5 months when I was night shift and your days are flipped backwards I was working 6 days for the most part it , I didn’t have time to get out. I felt like a tourist just here for a visit , now I’m starting to feel more like a resident after some good hikes, and spending sometime outdoors , hiking and exploring the hills makes you feel more connected to the land.
