Need opinions on this one. Would you guys rather put in for an elk late rifle hunt (Dec) or one of the limited opportunity elk hunts earlier in the fall (Oct).

I have a couple of units I would like to try for late rifle and I also have a couple of units I can out in for during those limited opportunity hunts. I can also combine them: 1st choice-Late rifle 2nd choice-LO hunt.

Either will be fine by me. I'm looking for more of an opportunity to hunt rather than trophy bulls.

Any thoughts or input will be appreciated.

Late rifle no question. The limited opportunity hunts mean extremely limited opportunity to even see an elk in most cases as they are designed to eradicate all elk from areas outside of their normal range.

My brother in AZ has drawn 4 tags in 11 years for an area listed as "limited opportunity" and just like sagebrush said, limited opportunity to even see an animal. The first time we hunted it we hunted for a week and never saw an elk, he got a cow the day after I left. Since then we have learned the country and have found areas where the few elk seem to favor and have filled his tags with good bulls. It doesn't look like your typical elk country because it low country, flat and mostly open country even though it is at about 6000' in elevation. This is the one from 2014. Find yourself an area and learn it well and you will be rewarded for your efforts.DSCN1211.jpg
