i been there. Rental vehicles are a crap shoot. I hit a deer about 5 years ago with the truck and ended up with a rental truck. Out of pure bad luck it had California plates. I caught a lot of grief at the trail headHe just met the Alaska Meat Express for delivery of his caribou. His wife didn't want him to take the minivan so he rented a car. He thought he got an SUV but when he showed up to the rental counter this is what they had him in.
100%. I rented a crew cab full size pickup in Anchorage fishing. It was to have a cap. Paid in full at $1500 about 8months prior. At the counter they said they were fresh out. But they had a Colorado 4 door with no cap. Not sure any of us were much under 250lbs. With coolers and gear no chance. About then I start eves dropping on a conversation with another customer who was renting a truck like I reserved for $3500. I was raging internally but politely explained that we would only accept the vehicle we reserved and paid for. The manager came over. Typed on the computer a second and announced "Perfect, one was just returned like you reserved and we can give you that". I get business and the idea of making an extra $2k for the same rental. But it is dishonest and not an option for an honest sales person. I have never used them again. Alaska rentals are sketchy at best unless you go to the right people. Cost's skyrocket if you wait to book. Vehicles sell out. Rental companies play gamesi been there. Rental vehicles are a crap shoot.
