A boy and his lake trout

Got some of the kids out fishing tonight. In early spring, you can get at these lakers and the salmon from shore, in the shallows. My oldest son got the biggest one tonight! The salmon were leaping all over, but we couldn't figure out what they wanted. I'm guessing something near the top, but moving slowly, which is hard to do if you need to cast far. Maybe we'll go back later this week with a canoe.

We might have saved her life. There was a lamprey attached when he got her to shore, but it detached rather than come up out of the water.

Brought two sons this time and we managed to get into a really active pod of small salmon. We got 3 and had many refusals.

Yumm. There is no better eating freshwater fish than a laker. Congrats.
