I’m currently using 42.1 gr varget with a 140ttsx, fed brass and primer. I haven’t messed around with it much but think maybe I’d switch bullets if somebody had a magic recipe..

What are your secret recipes for hunting?

120 grain NBTs over a max charge of Varget @ 3000fps.

140 grain Partitions/Accubonds over a max charge of Big Game @ 2850fps.

This is out of a 20” barreled Model Seven. That 120 grain NBT is a very tough bullet.

Currently shooting 47.5 grains of Big Game and a 140 E-tip. MV is about 2790 from a 22.4" barrel. Accuracy is excellent. This bullet also shot well with Varget, but velocity was a bit lower.

I think the only thing an E-tip would improve upon, against a TTSX, is the BC, but in my own load development, I've found it easier to get good accuracy from the Nosler.

If components were easy to find and I was going to tinker a bit, I'd probably want to play with Hammers in the 130 grain range, as well as the 139 grain LRX.

My load is 41 grains of varget with 140 accubond. 2730 FPS five shot average. I can’t find them now so I am working up a new load for 131 grain hammer hunters.

140gr Berger VLD or 140gr Ballistic Tips.
Powders range from IMR 4350, H414, RL17, and PP2000MR.
Best velocities with RL17.
Most consistant powder was PP2000MR with ES-6, SD2.

46.2gr of IMR4350 and 140 Nosler Partitions gets me 3/4" @ 100 yards at 2800+ out of my wife's 20" Rem 700

I don’t have a 7mm-08 but I bought a box of Lapua brass a while back with the hopes of getting one some day. If I do get a 7mm-08, I will be trying 162 gr Hornady ELD-Ms. It seems like that bullet in the 7mm-08 would be the equivalent of a 147 gr ELD-M in the 6.5 Creedmoor. And, I have had good luck with that combo. If I work up a secret recipe (AKA “pet hunting load”), I will share the details.

So you buy brass before the rifle?......I like the way you roll.

I load for 4 7-08's.

For mine and my wife's 43.0 grains varget, WW brass, CCI 250 mag primers to mag box confines in rem. 700.

Others that worked well in both rifles are RL 15 in my wife's shot as good if not slightly better than varget.

In my rifle, 50 grains RL 19 worked well the one time I tried it, 5 shots at 100 with 140 accubonds. I haven't shot that recipe since, so can't know if I was just having a real good day or it really does shoot that well. Also never did chronograph it for velocity.

Bone stock 700 youth in my nephews rifle seemed to like H4350 with 140 BT's, also 5 shots at 100:

Ended up loading some 120 BT's for his rifle using H380 getting 2825 FPS without getting close to max load. Shoots about .75 inches at 100.

Few others I tried in my wife's rifle when it was new, all 140 AB's:

My 7mm-08 liked 120 TTSX and NBT over 44gr of Varget. Take that for what you want
