Most (id guess 8 to 9 outta 10) hunters couldn’t hit a 10” x 10” target at 423 yards in a true 20mph wind no matter what they are shooting. Add in off a tripod, pack, natural object, good luck with a first round impact. But hey, let’s keep talking about the headstamps!

I love lamp.
I just don’t see how bringing up a shooting scenario that is outside most people capabilities in order to prove / disprove your opinion on what you believe to be an “elk round” helps your argument. Your argument looks like, hey I want a larger cartridge because my ethical shot scenario / distance changes depending on the size of the animal in my scope, therefore I need (insert round) to compensate for a bad shot. And I’m not disagreeing with your stance, I love large calibers. But the argument ehh. I’ll go back to putting mayonnaise in a toaster

I’m convinced that folks who argue on the internet about “cartridges” they don’t think are worthy or equal to for “insert hunting here” don’t ever really do much hunting.

The accuracy of a rifle only matters if you are capable of shooting that rifle more accurately than it is capable of. I'd be willing to argue that the accuracy argument isn't valid for most people.
I really want to build a 280 ackley to find out but at this point it’s leaning toward another 270. They just seem to do most things well (for me) and there’s always that argument about finding ammo at the gas station…

I have one centerfire rifle, the 6.5. I wanted something lighter than the .06’s that I was used to shooting, and I didn’t know how much lighter, so I just guessed. All obscure cartridges were off the table, d/t limited ammo availability. I settled on .270 or 6.5.
Now that I’ve had the gun for 5 years if I could go back I’d get the .270 instead. However, at the end of the day, that is a better decision by just a hair or two.
There are easily a dozen more important decisions to be made in sending a bullet at a game animal than headspace…so much so that these discussions are pretty meaningless.

Because it does this repeatedly and doesn't kill my already trashed shoulder. That's 6 rounds at 100yds off the bench.
Because I don't wanna put a scope on my 375H&H. That's why the 6.5 CM is a hunting cartridge for my old eyes, Not any better for deer than my 6.5x55 or 6.5x308, but hey, more ammo selection too. And elk don't exist, like bigfoots and unicorns n stuff.

I like the high BCs, low recoil for follow up shots, and the fact that there is the highest selection of factory ammo of all current cartridges. At 62 my natural testosterone is consistently above 500. I'd like to credit the low impact trauma from shooting deadly 6.5 CM, but it's probably just good genetics.

Here is what I can a say.
I killed my first few elk with a 300WM. I switched to a 30 Nosler; Elk were not dead enough
I killed a bunch of deer and elk with with my 270 WSM- I switched to a .28 Nosler. Ended up killing deader
I have a 6.5 CR ( by accident)- I bought a 6.5-300Weatherby. Even deader deer
Why, because I like shiny new fast things.
Still got the same wife though..................

I had to got out and shoot the deer in my freezer a second time the other day. He wasn’t quite dead, obviously not in the category of “most” deer.

Thinking about it, I think all the deer, hogs and yotes that I shot with a 6.5 are too dead. That's why I have a 25-06 coming. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I shot the elk twice with my .300 Win mag. I hit it in the void the first time.
No hind legs left of the bear so he can’t run off.

Who gives an actual f@#$k what rifle/weapons other people use?
280ai vs 270 are roughly the same until you start dialing past 400 yards.
I don’t buy ammo at gas stations so that argument doesn’t work for me.
