340 Wby for my Dream Hunt!!

I bet there are muzzle brakes out there that would cut the recoil more than the factory brake. I have a 4 port Ti Pro brake from Unknown Munitions on a 30 Nosler and it really tames the recoil from 230 gr Bergers. Also, a stock with less drop at heel would help reduce muzzle rise and, likely, perceived recoil.

It wasn't horrible recoil. Definitely a step up from the 300 weatherby with 180 grains. Get it down to moa and call it good. Vortex viper seems to be holding up to the recoil

One of roughest recoiling rifles I’ve ever shot was dads ol mark v in 340wby 😬😬😬😬 thing would knock your fillings loose every time it bucked haha

300 wby w/180gr did me in...jerked the trigger with the safety on & about fell off the shooting bench. Lost my rear trading that thing off.

I guess I dont mind it, im not jerking the trigger. 1.5 moa is best I got around shots 17 thru 19. For a hunting rig out to 400 it will work!!

I do not want to hurt your feelings but I downed a Saskatchewan moose with two quick shots from my .308 rifle. 180 grain Core-lokts worked just fine. TR

I think swapping the break and maybe playing with some different ammo could help. But heck with Alaskan moose all you gotta do is hit the broadside of a barn

I've quite a bit of 340 experience. Personally. I'd have that factory brake cut off and toss it and have a Terminator put on it. As well I'd have it bedded. The 340's always been one of the most accurate rounds out there in guns that are well done. Should be in the 3/4" range for 3 rounds without much work...

Best of luck to ya

I love the 308!!! But I needed this caliber is what I told my wife!!!

Just my 2 cents but with a high recoiling rifle like you've got there I would considering taking a walk over to the rokslide forum and pick a scope off their list of "drop test approved scopes". I suspect it won't be long before you find yourself chasing zero with a low end vortex scope on that rifle. YMMV
