Looking for input regarding velocity. My rifle has done very well with 165-168 grain bullets and 41.5 gr of 4895. I chrono'd it at 2425fps. Is that sufficient or of the muzzle for elk at 250 yards or should I be pursuing higher velocity? Thanks Pete

I need to look at my log book, it’s been a while since I’ve done a lot of work on my .308, but I seem to remember being about 250 fps faster with a 165 and Varget.

But ultimately depends on what bullet you’re using and the speed at 250 yards. Will you still be carrying enough speed for the bullet to function as designed at that distance?

Your IMR 4895 is a great powder in 308 Win and has won many matches years ago.
42.2 of IMR 4895 with 165gr/ 168gr in WW Brass with a mild primer like Rem 9.5 was very popular in matches in WW cases.

IMR-4895 is an excellent choice for a 308 and 168s. You should be able to get much closer to 2700+ though.

I get 2560fps with 190gr bullets from mine.
