.300 WSM - a sweet spot?

great cartridge for knockdown power. nice having a magnum gun that is lighter/compact. I shot a lot of deer and a couple elk and they were always down right there. Not so great cartridge for affordability and availability and recoil. As far as popularity, its like everything else, been around now for 25 years so its not the latest and the greatest.

I have had something like seven different 300 WSM's going back to 2001. I've taken antelope, mule deer, and quite a few elk with it. Anymore, I don't like its recoil, and haven't hunted with one for years. I prefer lighter recoiling cartridges and never found the WSM's added velocity necessary for the hunting I do. Today I see it at its best with an 18" barrel and suppressor. Lot's of velocity even with a barrel that short - a 30-06 Ai essentially. Otherwise, pass the 6.5 CM, 270 and 308 Win.

I've always loved 300 win, i have recently swapped to the 300 PRC and its a beast also. i currently run the fierce arms rage.
