300 AAC Blackout

We did some shooting yesterday. The 300 suppress subsonic is really dam fun. It isn't movie quite but you can hear the spring during cycling. It is fun hearing the impact of the bullet also.

The 300 will be fine for killing. I will second the barns 110 blacktips again. My son dropped a 250lb hog in his tracks with it.

Was that with a subsonic load? How far away was it and what was the shot placement? On the bigger boars I've shot even a 7mm Rem Mag doesn't result in a pass through on a shoulder shot, that armor they have on their shoulders is thick!

The 300 blackout doesn't quite get to the performance of the 30-30 or 7.62x39. It doesn't miss it by much. Mine is more accurate than any ak in the 600 dollar range. It also holds its own pretty good with the 30-30 once it gets out to 100 yards. Mine shoots about 1.5" groups at 100 yards. That's not great but I haven't seen many 30-30 rifles or ak variants that will do better. It just has better bullets. I know guys that hunt hogs with night vision. They started with 5.56 moved to 300 then bigger to 7.62x39 and now they are all back to 5.56/223
They said the 223 kills hogs as well as the other two with 70+ grain bullets. I think their choice was probably based more on maintaining sight picture after the shot than anything.

While I agree that if you arent going suppressed its noth really worth your time, but 300blk ammo and parts are probably the most popular after 5.56.

Sig MCX 300blk with Dead Air Ghost. I can swap barrels in about 2 minutes.

Performance measured on what? speed energy?

No it wasn't subsonic, all the subs I have loaded are heavy, 220 grains. He hit is in the shoulder but a little forward. My dad was with him when he shot it. It was 70 yards or so.

My little boy got his first deer this past year with an AR I built for him. Its 6.8SPC, so to others points, yes, it requires barrel, bolt, and different mags from standard 5.56 ARs. We shoot SSA 110gr. accubonds out of it for hunting. According to Nosler/SSAs website, that cartridge is 1780ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle, 1479 at 100yds, 1219 at 200.. Since SSA doesn't make a 110Gr. factory load for 300 Blackout, I compared the Hornady factory load with 110gr. VMAX. Its 1217ft/lbs at the muzzle, 1071 at 100yds, and 820 at 200.. So, while not an apples to apples comparison per se, still a pretty significant difference in energy at 100 yards.
