.30-40 nontox

I have a 98 Krag .30-40 for which I may want to make non-tox loads. Is anyone aware of such load recipes? And if not, what sort of non-toxic bullets are likely to work? The gun is made to shoot 220 gr lead bullets that are ridiculously long, so long copper bullets would probably be best, but will they function correctly at .30-40 speeds? I'm not looking for hot 21st century loads. Slow, even by 20th century standards would be just fine.

The rifle shoots okay with 180 gr factory Remington Core-lokts, but I am going to need a non-tox gun one day, and this may be it.

Some of the Barnes or Hammers intended for the .30-30 might be a good option at slower velocities.

143 Lever Hammer or 150 Power Hammer...Use 150grain starting load from Hodgdon and work up. Should be good to go within most hunting situations.

I have a Krag also. And a .30-30. I have a box of the 143 Lever Hammers, just need time to load them. Steve took a .30-30 to Africa last year. Did well with it. mtmuley
