Any real-world experience using the 170 grain Sierra FP in the .30-30? It's a real popular bullet, but I'd like first-hand experience on game. I know it's more than adequate for deer, but does it hold up on <100 yard shots on elk?

I know the Partition comes recommended over the Sierra, but it's the bullet I'm doing load development on now (at less than half the cost of Partitions), so I'd like to know if it's up the job.

Thanks,

Emrah

No comment on the two bullets you mentioned, but why would you want to compromize on what is the most important thing on a hunt that you can control if you know one is better than the other for a particular use?

I'm not trying to compromise. I guess that's the crux of my question. Is the Partition REALLY better than the Sierra? If they are equal, I'll continue load development. If they are not, then Partitions it is (or a nice cast boolit load). I wasn't trying to sound cheap. Just comparing one to the other, as there seems to be less data (reviews) on the Sierra.
