Sweet! I gotta run cattle on Saturday but I hope to get the kids out in the morning. There were a few guys out yesterday, but not many in the cold today.

I was up Friday night to check on things and clean the driveway. To damn cold for anything else. Keep in touch, maybe we can meet up Saturday morning.

Today is the opening day of late muzzleloader and it goes through January 10. I am loading some bullets and fine tuning some things. My gear is ready to go. And I’ve been watching a few nice bucks come out to the fields. I don’t think I’ll be able to go hunting this week due to some family issues but I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises.

First late muzzleloader sit of the year. It snowed two days ago and this morning. It’s currently 24* and spitting some freezing crap. I can see at least 6 deer in the tree line and one is a buck but I don’t think he’s a shooter.

I got set up about 3:45 looking to the east. The wind was ssw but switching straight west at dark. To the south is a big block of forest and in front of me is a finger that goes out into a field. That field has been dished under from corn. In front of me is new seeded alfalfa with oat stubble. The deer usually come out of the big woods or go all the way to the tip of the finger but then feed to the west. I could see deer in the finger and there were 4 that came out together about 4:20. Sunset was 4:38 and legal shooting is a half hour after. They fed into the field to the west and behind me. They were 2 does and 2 fawns. About 10 minutes later there was a flurry of activity to the south. Earlier I had seen a buck in the woods and I was hoping he’d come out, but this time it was 6 does. They fed to the north within 30 yards. About 15 minutes after sunset the 9 deer that had fed past me all bolted to east and into the woods. Upon them diving back into the woods a flurry of activity exploded in the woods but no other deer came out in the woods before dark.
On the way home in the fresh snow I can see where a good group of deer is crossing into another field. Where they are crossing will be a more favorable location for the prevailing wind.
A New Year’s Eve buck would be great! I’m going to be picky, 160”+.

Had a 3-4 year old go by my stand last night at about 20 yards had already shed both sides. Goodluck!
