‘25 Iowa whitetail

I’ve never heard of anyone using them before. Did you use them for communication like starting a drive or to try and move deer?
Mainly to move deer. However, they sound similar to a gunshot so could usually be heard by everyone at the start of a drive. This was before cell phones. You should give them a try if your into making noise during drives. Later on some guys thought making loud noises was counter productive so we adjusted our drives a bit to incorporate the drivers walking slower and even pausing to stand and talk to “make the bucks uncomfortable.” Big/smart bucks seemed to hold until the last minute so I do think there is some truth to this, more so sometimes they would hold long enough they could slip out the back/direction the drivers were coming from.

I would guess it will be in the 5-6k per acre range. It’s not buildable, all forest and no ag. The forest has been heavily logged. And you will have to work out an easement with your neighbor because it is landlocked by about 10 yards on the road side.

My buck is laying about at the bottom right of the black squiggles. No trail to get an atv to him and he is half way from the top or half way to the bottom.

I got my buck out of the woods. At the very beginning of the drive there is a finger of timber that is 10 yards wide and 150 yards long, it sticks out into a corner field. Every year there is a buck that beds in that finger. I walked to the edge of the finger and he jumped up about 25 yards in front of me. I took a shot as he was bounding otherwise I couldn’t see him. I went forward to where I shot and saw 1 speck of blood. I looked down to where the woods got bigger and I saw him walking real slow about 150 yards away. After I got a rest on a tree I squeezed one off and couldnt tell if I got another slug in him or not, but I could not see him any more. as we continued to move forward with the other drive the driver to my right saw my buck bedded under a log still alive but not moving as he walked up to him and finished him off. We went back later with SxSs and my 4 wheeler. We left the SxSs on the edge and took the 4wheeler to get down into the woods, we were able to get to him and drag him out to the field edge without winching and just a little fishing on the atv.

Any idea where your shots landed, vs the finisher?
