I’ve been getting some questions on what am I doing for next year. After, working with Dave this year I realize that Elk in the mountains may not of been the best species to chase. Not everyone has the same abilities.

I am putting out feelers to see if there would be interest in a 2026 Veteran’s pronghorn hunt.

Vet’s would have to be rated at 50% or more thru the VA.

We would also need a WY resident to sponsor the hunter. Either the resident or resident a family member put for the draw, then if drawn, donate it.
I work with the Cheyenne HwH chapter. They can handle all the paperwork transactions.

Maybe, something we can tie NAPF into for publicity or to raise funds. @brocksw

If any one has thoughts feel free to share them.

I can assist with the resident draw portion of this.

I can't help with the residency, but I'd be more than happy to take someone hunting
Will keep that in mind. A lot of this depends on getting enough residents to put in.

NAPF could try and take on the one shot for tags but they need to be raising money. This would likely only cost money. So that is why I thought the resident angle would be better although low odds of getting enough tags.

I’d love to participate as a hunter, being 100% T&P rated. Only catch is I don’t have any family in WY, so I’m a little SOL on that front.

If we can get enough residents / family / friends to apply we should get a hand full of tags to distribute to those that express interest in attending.

This may end up being a good idea fairy thing but I figured there is nothing to loose by throwing it out there.

Ya know I’m in. As a veteran I would help. Although I know a rancher who does it through hunting with hero’s. Him and his wife donate their tags.

As far as units go, that would be a later decision. It would be one of the easier to draw units that still has access. Shooting a new WY state record isn’t the goal.

Did some digging today and chatted with my HwH contact. He is on board to help and asked if I would be willing to help another nonprofit’s veterans. They have the means but not the know how as they are based out of Virginia. This thing may grow legs, who knows.

Looking at tags draw % and places I’ve had good hunts I think 32 is the unit it would be held in.

Lots of antelope that were not affected by the die off and easy access. Resident draw odds greater than 50%. .

dang - fine idea - though I hesitate to go any further as I am a 60% disabled vet and LOVE Pronghorn!
good luck with this - let me know how I can help

Biggest thing is going to be decided after the resident draw and I know how many tags we are able to pull. Anyone who is interested I would encourage to apply and see what happens.

Which Vet group out of VA? TFO or Freedom Hunters?
Neither, I’m not sure I’m going to do anything with them. I’ve spoken with them. They are a good group but larger than what I really want to deal with. I want to keep this small and mainly HT.

Definitely understand that. I have dealt with a lot of the vet groups in VA. Most are pretty good with good intentions.
