2026 Garden

How do you make your sauce? Finally figured out what is causing my end rot on tomatoes and peppers. A lack of calcium. 1 tablespoon to half gallon or so of water in a hand sprayer and douse the plants.
We'll see how well it works. My tomatoes are starting to ripen now. More salsa to come.
Green beans are done blooming so it's time to pull the plants. A real good lightning rain storm this morning already. Rain yesterday afternoon.

I follow this recipe to the letter.

WoW! That is quite the recipe. I book marked it. If I should get enough tomatoes ahead and find the time and a cool day.
Pulled the green beans they are done producing. Pulled up the sunflowers. Actually not sure where or how I got them. They sure weren't the wildflowers that was suppose to go in the flower bed.
Looked at the Armenian cucumbers and there is a ton of vine and flowers but only 2 cucumbers growing. Told them they have a week then coming out. Have 3 gherkins growing and producing more cucumbers than we can handle. Onions are laid over so need to pull and start drying them. Cantaloupe are coming on strong. Great flavor. The watermelon are doing the same. Looks like things are thinking fall is coming.

Tomatoes only uptake calcium through the roots. Blossom end rot is technically caused by a lack of calcium but that is almost always ultimately caused by inconsistent watering. If watering has been consistent and enough, then amending the soil with calcium is the next step.

I would add that using a cal-mag blend instead of straight calcium helps prevent a calcium induced magnesium deficiency.
