2026 Garden

Ya'll are nothing but show offs!! Good going Dave N, my spear grass is slowly coming on and the ones outside are regrowing again for the 3rd time.
My poor watermelon plants are barely growing in the hothouse. They just haven't wanted to take off for some reason.
Onions survived and have more coming up.
Still holding off on planting seeds outside and moving the tomatoes and peppers to the big greenhouse. Maybe next week.

My melons took forever. I had to replant twice, and finally all of them came up at the same time. I talked to a friend that grew them commercially and he said that its mostly a soil temp thing and they'll just kind of idle until its go time and then its off to the races.

Thankful for a good day of rain here. Emptied .5" this morning before I left for work and then had this in the gauge when I got home. Everything is humming along. Needed the rain too because I'm waiting for a prv for my irrigation system. Still in severe drought overall but enough rain recently to at least lift the fire ban for the whole state. Looks like we are getting our mid-April weather about a month late. Cool with several rain changes the next week.

May have to cut back to just one zucchini plant, the variety I have planted is sprawling way more than I anticipated. Expecting strawberries to start budding anytime now. Peach tree is holding 17 right now, I'd be thrilled if 10 of those make it to harvest. Plenty of lettuce. Second planting of beans have all come up now. Persimmon tree is looking really healthy now, really pleased with how it woke up. Thought I had lost it. 20260507_175727.jpg20260507_175731.jpg20260507_175737.jpg

Planted cucumbers and acorn squash. Couple cuc's had small cuc's started they needed to get into the ground. One squash had the start of an acorn. Bought more strawberries 3 cantaloupe plants and a black raspberry bush. Now we have cold temps coming by this weekend. The cuc's and squash are in hothouses but will still cover them. Will wait on putting the cantaloupe outside for another week or better. The joys of living at 5,000 feet and spring time.
