2025 Idaho Moose and Elk scouting/hunting!

When I walked up and gave thanks for the opportunity and how blessed I was, the oh crap moment of how big even a young moose is and trying to get a few pictures by myself in the wide open and how I need to get him broken down before it got too hot. IMG_2929.jpeg
I also saw my first sign of grizzly bears, scat 20ft from were he died probably a week old but definitely heightened the senses.

I was feeling pretty good about where he died other than it was going to be full sun. He was about 150yds from a 50inch or under trail on this old logging road all down hill to camp. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get it all quartered and the log I was setting them on was starting to get sun so had to shuttle them another 50yds and lay some sticks to prop off the ground to keep cooling. I then headed back to camp to grab my cart really wishing I had a four wheeler, but glad I did have a cart. IMG_2942.jpeg

Took me 1/2 an hour to drag it to camp .07 miles glad it was all down hill.
Shot it at 8:30 had it in camp at 4:30 and was beat. At 55 this re enforces that I will have many years yet to chase elk solo. The quarters were about the same weight as the biggest bull elk I’ve killed other than those legs are so much longer.

Congratulations!! I just got back from idaho on a mule deer/elk hunt. We saw alot of moose! Only 1 bull. Never saw an elk in 11 days of hunting. Enjoy that meat!!

Nice work! They're heavy animals. Glad you got it close to the trail! The one time I've packed a moose out, it was over a mile from the road!
