It’s been pretty quiet on here for a while. What kind of hunts do you guys have planned for this fall? I’ll be hunting with a work buddy of mine in Wyoming on a rifle cow elk hunt and heading to South Dakota for the pheasant opener and a day of walleye fishing. Got one trip to Lake Erie walleye fishing in this spring and hope to fit in another one in November. Just got back from Canada last weekend after a week of fishing. Packing it in this year.

Nice.

I am really excited about my upcoming hunting/fishing planned trips.

Life may get in the way and I may not be able to go on all of the below outings, but this is what I am hoping to do.

In mid-August I am going on a 3 day/night fishing charter cruise out of San Diego with a friend and some strangers that will hopefully become friends that will be targeting big bluefin tuna, yellowtail, and mahi-mahi.

A few years ago I went on a similar 3 day trip on the same boat, and managed to personally reel in 18 big bluefin, some over 100 pounds. Good eating as well as a lot of fun!

In case anyone is curious, in California on the shared fishing charters, they do "boat limits" instead of individual limits, and the crew members all have fishing licenses, and so passengers on those trips can legally sometimes catch more than what an "individual limit" would be.

On August 18th, the archery quail season opens up in Cali, and I have a Cali bear tag and a deer tag for D3-D5, so if I can I plan to spend at least a couple days out there at some point before gun season starts with my recurve bow trying to get a quail (which I haven't yet been able to do with bow, though in the past I've gotten a pheasant and a coot with my bow), and while I doubt I could sneak up close enough to a bear or deer to get one with my bow, it will be a great chance to scout ahead of rifle season.

On September 1 dove season opens locally and I'm looking forward to taking my German Shepherd that will be close to a year old out, she is not a trained bird dog, but it will be fun to watch her chase the birds.

I love jump shooting doves whenever I have a half day free during dove season, especially after the crowds subside after the opening weekend madness.

On September 8th it will be opening day for my NV horns shorter than ears antelope tag, and I'm really really excited as I think this will be my best chance to finally score a big game animal solo. I have been in the area I plan to hunt lope a couple times before, and seen lots of antelope there, at least in the past.

If life allows me to take the additional time off later in September, especially if I manage to see good sign in Cali D3-D5 if I get out there in August, I'll hopefully be able to be out there when the rifle season opens for bear/deer on September 27th.

I haven't hunted D3-D5 before, so my plan if I can is to find a cool place to backpack camp not too far of a hike out the night of the 26th, and then basically pretend I am a sniper on the morning of the 27th, and hopefully with all the other hunters in the area on opening day a deer or bear will get pushed out in front of me, lol.

I also drew a tag for a buck antelope in Wyoming unit 102 for mid-October and have a deposit down with a guide for a 3 day trip. I'm very optimistic I'll be able to get a good buck on that guided trip, as the guide also has access to some private land.

Around that same time quail/chukar season opens up locally and I'm looking forward to taking my dog out chasing those birds whoever I have a free half-day for the rest of the season.

And if I don't manage to get a bear on my own beforehand, I am tentatively planing to go with a guide up in Northern Cali in November or the first week of December for a 3 day guided bear trip.

-Colorado cow elk (muzzleloader)
-Colorado early rifle deer
-Wyoming cow elk
-Wyoming antlerless whitetail
-Wyoming mule deer
-South Dakota whitetail
-Indiana deer

Hard to say which I’m most excited about.. changes day to day! I’ll just be happy to get the hunting season started.

I had planned on flying out to Cold Bay Alaska for ducks in November but a couple of weeks ago I asked my wife “What do you think about driving up to Prudhoe Bay again?
She say “Let’s do it”
So that’s what we’ll be doing Aug 15

I’m going to take it as a bird hunting trip with a caribou tag in my pocket so as to not get my hopes up too high.
