2025 documenting hunts / another Ben series

It's unusual weather for us here and a first to be able to hunt deer with snow on the ground. Went with my oldest brother to a place he hunts since it is so cold for us, not my preferred way to hunt since we park the truck right next to the stand but it's the best choice with the weather.

Saw one deer early on down the logging road about 1300 yards away.

After a little while of me feeling cold I knew G had to be so we retreated to the truck and turned the heat on. Wouldn't you know it after about 15 minutes looked in the mirror and there is a spike on the path 75 yards behind us. Couldn't get out in time to get a shot off though.

After some fat Deborah cakes and summer sausage had to head back home. Super windy today so squirrel hunting will probably be a no go.

The stand my brother wanted us to hunt in we couldn't use since it needs repair work that he couldn't get to yet, but this is what showed up there right after we left the land, wish we could have sat there.

If all goes well then next week I'll be able to get some hunting done. Going to have the entire week off work, although I've been off since the 8th of October with this being the first week back to work.

Note to others, if your wife uses the fact that you get 12 weeks of paid parental leave during hunting season as a bargaining chip to have another kid just know that hunting will not be happening during that time off. It really wasn't a bargaining chip as we both wanted a 4th child but I did think I was going to have some time to take the older ones out during my time off.

But we also decided to start a cut flower farm this year to sell to florists and that has consumed all my extra time since she hasn't been able to help. That work should be done this week if the rain cooperates and then I'll be free of that until next year.
