Odd you left out OSU hung 14 on Miami but could only hang 10 on Indiana. So what does that say about Miami vs. Indiana D?

14>10

There is only so much you can extrapolate from those games. IMO Hoosiers are winning by double digits.

I think it says they are similar against a common opponent. My point is it's hard to draw a conclusion that Indiana is that much better. I agree that those two games only say so much.

Ya I’m here worked this evening! That was a bad game , both the offensive and defensive coordinators have head coaching positions at other schools completely lack of focus. It was a recipe for disaster how I thought it would.

The ducks is all mostly all freshman and sophomores though so come next September they’re gonna be really nasty to deal with.
Top 25 teams are seeing 40% annual turnover between portal, career-ending injury, draft, running out of eligibility. There are 4500 D1 football players in the portal.

The idea your team is a core of young athletes that will stick together for two or three more seasons to gel into a juggarnaut is an illusion of days gone by now. Oregon will see more turnover than the Raiders (next level of competition and than Montana State (down level of competition.

Staff turnover at better teams is usually to lose either the OC, DC or HC each year.

Players and coaches lining up for the biggest payday for next season while still playing games this season is the new reality where the loyalty is not to the college nor your teammates but to the bank account. Not judging but this is the reality. Players who feel are not getting plenty of playing time are calling their agents by Game 2 of the season.

Oregon may win a Natty next season but will be due to several rent-a-season players which were not on Oregon this season.

Yep, the emotional attachment we feel for a team or a conference has no subjective basis...it's long been a performative transaction & I have to smh whenever I hear Saban bemoaning the current reality.

Take off the 3 TD given by Moore's bad game, and it wasn't a blowout. Also, Mendoza got lucky with his two fumbles bouncing to Indiana players. That could have been quite a bit different if those plays went the opposite way.
That’s not how sports work tho.
When the other team hangs half a hundred on you, you don’t get to make any excuses.

IMG_2826.png@jimh406 , not disagreeing but at what point do we consider them elite or one of the historically elite teams?

I have a hard time putting them up there with the historical teams mentioned by @PoleX

BUT, this stat is wild to me. Why didn’t any of those teams pull this off? Cupcake schedule?

Perhaps our (mine included) bias is preventing us from recognizing what they are?

They have one more game to win to be elite.

Stats don't mean a lot after the fact. People are pulling all kinds of weird stats out. Indiana wouldn't have been worse had they pulled their starters, but the scores would be less lopsided.

Ohio State was the best ranked defense with the best stats and had 24 put on them by a team that didn't win their conference. There are other examples. That doesn't make Ohio State bad, but the stats only tell part of the story.

I guess I just hear commentators and coaches (Day being one of them I think) talking my about needing statement wins (more so when it was just 4 teams) but Indiana seems to be one of the few to have had such a statement season.

I think teams should have to play into the CFP. The rankings heavily influenced by commentators are obviously way off. #2 lost to #10. Last year #1 lost to #6.

Something similar to NFL might make sense. In other words, if you win your conference, you still have to win another game to get in.

Seeding is not ranking.

In the north, public educations decent enough to know the difference.

Happens in college basketball too with lower rankings winning. It’s the beauty of sports playoffs.

They’re in the very close ballpark on who should play in the top 12. It could be expanded to 16. I don’t think most people think ND would win the playoffs but at 16 they’d make the cut.

It's just saying what happened that's what people who do who watch games and don't just look at scores. ;)
You’re delusional if you think that game was anything other than an ass whippin’.

Ducks had a really good year. Don’t marginalize it with arguments. It’s okay to get your a$$ kicked by one of the best teams to take a college field in the last 30 years.

Since it apparently isn't obvious, I'm not a Duck fan.

You are welcome to believe what you want, about delusion or not. At the end of the day, they lost and that's what matters.

I’ll sit this out. I’ve been trying to piece together this conversation between changing diapers and cleaning pheasants.
My bad if I’ve misunderstood the conversation.

Leave the nfl outta it. Do away with current format. NCAA already has a system working in the FCS. Copy that for FBS. It’s bullshit that the NCAA is dragging shit out 2/3 the way through January.
