Time to chase some SD whiteys. I had not been back to Sturgis since April, so I had to visit over toddies with some buds. One thing lead to another and I didn't get home until 3. At 5:15 the alarm sounded and I crawled out of bed.

As the sky was catching color, I had a 4 X nothing walk to within 50 yards. Obviously not a shooter, but a little excitement none the less. An hour later, we located a shooter buck. My hunting partner had seen this buck the week before, so I wached him put on a perfect mile and a half sneek. He was held up by a couple of does, but when the nervous buck got out of his bed, he dropped the hammer on this nice buck. He has shot bigger deer over the last couple years, but was very happy with this guy.

A few hours later, we found another shooter buck. He was nervous, but had about 10 does in the area that were unaware of our presence. After 30 minutes, he finally relaxed and started chasing one of the does. At this point I decided it was time to make a move.

We put in a sneek of about 400 yards and a belly crawl for another 100. Suddenly he appeared a mere 70 yards from my location. Because of the topography, I had to drop the bipod. I could only see his head and throat patch, so with only a couple of seconds to get the job done I centered the cross-hairs on the white patch. He was dead before he hit the ground. The shot was perfect, but lead to some bloody pictures (sorry about that).

He is a 6X5 with a couple of junk points on the bases. Not a monster, but my best whitey to date. It was a good day with two nice bucks taken by good shots after great sneeks.

Those are two great bucks MT......and the pics are once again outstanding. I love the one with Bear Butte in the background...the colors and clarity are outstanding.

Those are some true bruiser prairie bucks, big and knarly....got a love it. I've been meaning to get in on a SD hunt, a friend of mine puts in for down around Sturgis every year......might have to put in with him for next year.

Great job and congrats on another fine hunt. ;)

I like the picture of your buddy, carrying the Cell Phone in the Carharts..... Someday I want to hunt where you can get cell phone service....

Congrats on both of the Whiteys... What did you get for width on yours?

Those are some nice bucks, congrats!!!

This one going on the wall???

See, you do have honky-tonking in SD! :D

Seems like all my Sturgis friends are constantly doing business and have to have at least one attached at all times. I prefer my slower life in MT. :D

I think the inside main beam was 16". His was 17.5".

Access is the only problem. I you have a place to go, tages seem to be an easy draw, but you will want to put in for a double tag as a second choice for a guarantee in the area I hunt.

No, I have two critters with my tax-man now that need to be paid for. I think he will make a nice european mount someday, but for now he will go in the garage with the rest of my whiteys.
What do they weigh?
Neither one seems very big and I wouldn't know what to guess for live weight. Mine is a pretty old buck and seemed rather lean. I can tell you my MT mule deer would have stomped these guys into the ground. :D

Congrats on the good whitey, Miller. I sure hope you're out of buck tags for the year. ;)

Nice buck Miller. I have yet to lay eyes on the one leaving rubs on 12" trees on my land. He is there someplace....

Way to go MT! Looks like another awesome hunt is in the books and once again some fine critters too. You are definitely on a roll this year and I am jealous of the opportunities you have to see & hunt so many critters. Congrats!

By the way, I'm sure I have asked you this before but what kind of camera are you using?

It is a Panasonic FZ10. I like it a lot.

I have had some great hunts this year and I am very thankful. Even my WY deer trip was great and I didn't see a shooter.

Only one more furry critter to shoot this year, so it all ends too soon. Counting the days 'til next year already.
