Yep....time to start getting ready to whack some WY Prairie Dogs !!

Figured I'd post this.

It's a start.......some spiffy new parts. I'm LH so, I'm partial to Savage actions.
A 16 FLHSS donor
BVLSS stock
26" Shilen select match barrel (12 twist, I plan to stay at 32gr and under).
.....and some glass.......yep, I forgot to order the base and rings....Doh !!

After bedding ......realizing that I forgot to order the base and rings........I threw on bases/rings/scope I had around.

Two shots to get it on paper, then this five using the load my old 20 Practical liked, just tweaked the seating depth for this this barrel.

With the Farrell base, XTRs and the new glass.
Still playing with the load to get the speed up but, it's a start. :)

What is a .20 Practical? I've never heard of it.

Good looking gun though!

.223 necked down to a .204. It gives up a little bit to a 204 Ruger in speed but, components are way cheaper and easier to find.

Uses a .223 bushing sizer and a .223 seater. No special dies, hard to find brass or fire-forming required......"Practical".

How does it compare to a 22-250 or 220 swift?

It's a different animal. It's faster than both but, also a lighter bullet (in my case).

I take my AR and a bolt gun each year (we fly out so we can only bring two rifles each because of weight). I took my 22-250 out last year and had a hoot but, want something faster......just for something different.

Very nice! A former poster from ID used the Practical alot, starting back in early 2000s. Took things up to and including deer with it. He had an in with Barnes and talked them into making some .204 X bullets.
