On most rifles I prefer something around 2 pounds. I’m starting to get neuropathy in my fingers so I might have to go heavier at some point. My .375 H&H I set to 3 pounds and my bench rest rifle is under 2 ounces.
I have become a recent convert to the CDS dial and I’m a big fan. I have one on my 2.5-8 on a .308. I have yet to take it out to maximum range but so far it’s been spot on. I did take care to make sure all the data I provided Leupold was accurate.
Had to go with the Nutty Buddy, but back when I was a pup my go to turkey hunting breakfast was a Honey Bun and a pint of Half and Half. Type 2 diabetes has forced a minor change 🙁
I would side with the previous posters that advised you to accumulate more points. When I started hunting pronghorns it was an easy draw, nonresident hunters had a legitimate chance at a third choice area. Leftover tags and multiple any antelope were available. Now accessible public land areas...
I’m not completely sold on it, I have planned my own hunts many times and have been mostly successful. The exceptions being when I invited others who were completely unprepared and very poor hunters. I learned my lesson the hard way. I’m currently considering this as an option for hunting a...
There’s a long thread on tipping on the African hunting forum. It’s a personal decision and there are many variables. I would check with the PH or the outfitter and go from there. There can be unforeseen circumstances that may merit a higher tip, for instance, a tracker may save your life.
At 67, I can vividly remember my dad taking me along on a deer hunt at age 4, I didn’t carry a gun or have a tag but I was on cloud 9. We didn’t have many deer back then and it was several years before I killed my first one but I’ll never forget that first hunt. I think it should be up to the...
This old bull was a warrior, hardly any hair left, lion scars, broken boss and a fresh chunk bitten out of his ass. If you zoom in, just to the left of the scopes objective bell you can see where 3 of those Cutting Edge solids went through his heart.
I’ve never hunted South Africa but I have hunted Tanzania. Your .375 Ruger should serve you well. For my buffalo I loaded 300 grain Swift A-Frames and 300 grain Cutting Edge solids. You probably won’t need the solids for the buff but they will come in handy for the smaller species. The Cape...
