Small Bullets (.224) and BIG game

Funny how the new cool stuff is "bettter" than the .243. mtmuley
If I can wrangle a scope, A Leupold M8 6X is on the way to my house and I may will take the .243 elk hunting this year. The last critter it killed was my daughter’s first elk.

Debating between a Hammer and the Nosler Ballistic Tip for bullets. I think the 95 grain Nosler over some H4350 might be my first try.

There is nothing wrong with the .243 win but I don't think that I would consider it if I am getting a new gun. With that said I found a great deal at scheels for a Tikka T3 in .243 win last week. It was a perfect rifle for my sister in law so I picked it up.

We used to have two neighbor boys that piled up several deer between them when they were first learning to hunt. The rifle of choice was a Ruger 77/22H. Yes, the old .22 Hornet, they never lost a deer that I’m aware of. I’m quite sure that the various .22 caliber cartridges are all capable of taking big game under good conditions when directed by a competent marksman. Personally, I’ll use something a little larger.
