    Old family heirloom

Awesome. I got my dad's 94 and it is well worn. It was made the year I was born. I've taken some deer with it. Great guns. .30-30 is a great caliber.

    who carries a chainsaw?

I helped my father pull a buck out on our logging lease. I cut 5 fallen trees out of the way so we could load it on an ATV. This is in Mississippi though.

Do I need 4WD? How Capable is Subaru Outback?

Oh, just looked at some other trucks.... Silverado is about 8.8 inches of ground clearance. The Subaru is 8.7. I do think the Silverado is more capable and less stuff is hanging low.

Do I need 4WD? How Capable is Subaru Outback?

My 2016 forester has about 1 inch less ground clearance than my 2016 Tacoma. That's really not bad for a car. Tires are a limitation as well as not having a low range 4WD. It'll make those hills a little easier. The Subaru can do quite a bit, learn the limitations, learn about recovery...

    Caution Warning: Racism #huntingwhileblack

Bow season in Mississippi starts October 1. Other than shooting my bow, I can screw around otherwise.

    Caution Warning: Racism #huntingwhileblack

I have the following thoughts: 1. You are basing your opinion on the current political status. The political status of other people doesn't always apply to different people. This is stereotyping. 2. Never would have filmed myself doing it. You are viewing the world through your rose colored...

    Too many hunting interests?

Part of the reason I don't hunt ducks and other small game.... kinda keeps me from getting into fishing. Life just gets in the way.

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

    Perfectly reasonable.

    What caliber for son?

Either one of these would be great. 6.5 CM can be pretty cheap to shoot.

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

Doubling the torque.... and depending on the number of screws might cause issue. My real point was that an experienced gunsmith who does this all the time, is likely not going to cause issues by not using a torque wrench. I don't have issue with you wanting it torqued to spec. I just might not...

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

If a few 6-40 screws are distorting your scope's ability to do its job, your rings don't fit, aren't aligned, or the tube is too flimsy. All which may be the case. If it is the case, me thinks you'll lose zero anyways the first bump the rifle sees. Edit: I am thinking in the general sense of...

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

Lol, they do work. We use them a lot on gas turbines. Can't afford to have a loose bolt go through one. I do think loctite works fine on a scope though.

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

To be honest, if you don't do a bunch of mechanical stuff and have a feel for under/over tightening, a torque wrench can be a real comfort. I've broken enough bolts/screws that I do feel pretty comfortable with it. (Edit - For small screws to about a 3/8" bolt that isn't part of a rotating...

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

Honestly, over torquing (short of over stretching the screw), shouldn't affect anything as far as the scope mounting. If it does, something is wrong with one of your components anyways.

Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!

I really hesitate to provide my input because my experience and yours or everyone else's is different. In reality, a properly designed/sized scope ring/scope/mounting system probably shouldn't be affected by having "just the exact right torque." Having too little torque is definitely a...
