What Group Size Do You Stop Load Development

I would shoot this load for additional groups and see if it's consistently grouping. Also maybe address fouling control and see if that makes a difference. A 2.25 inch group at 100 yards with open sights will be an effective hunting load.

    MT- M/S/G results 26

No sheep, goat or bison for me. Still holding out for the coveted whitetail doe tag and an archery antelope plus elk B. There is still hope for something.

How old is too old to apply for physical hunts?

Well no sheep permit for me. Had 25 bonus points so next year I'll see how I feel I just turned 72 so it's year by year.

    N-Frame 329PD Air light (44 Mag) vs Gen 4 Glock 20 (10mm)

Good choice! You would do well to get a case of practice ammo and someone who understands shooting a Glock. Learning a semi auto is night and day different from a wheel gun. If you're going to use it to save your butt in a large predator encounter it's worth the effort to learn the gun. Good...

Hunting with a Handgun - Colt .44 Mag

Congrats! What load did you use? DRT can't ask for anything more than that.

Ever killed a bear with a pistol?

A number of years ago we had a missing girl in the Logging creek area south of Great Falls, MT. Deputy's conducted a search, and she was found deceased with a black bear feeding on her. The bear was shot twice by the deputy killing it immediately. The pistol was a S&W 1006, 10mm and the load was...

    Corner Crossing Update

In Montana this talk aka argument here is not going to settle anything. It will take a corner crossing (trespass charge) to go to court. If found guilty then an appeal to the MT supreme court. From there it depends on how much money you can raise to push the issue. The big question is who is...

I'm Trying to Decide on a New All Around Rifle.

No your 30-06 is fine. Just practice in field positions and learn the rifle and load. Spend the money on a new varmint rifle.

Does anyone know where to get the new Marlin 336 Classic from Ruger?

Have you checked Scheels? They usually have new releases pretty quick.

Buy a new 357 Magnum (Which would you buy?)

Years ago, a Mt game warden was releasing a grizzly from a cylinder trap that was in the back of his truck. Upon release the bear turned around and shook the trap thus causing the warden to fall to the ground. The bear attacked and chewed his leg briefly while the warden fired 6 rounds into the...

Buy a new 357 Magnum (Which would you buy?)

My choice would be a S&W 627 PC model based on the N frame, 8 shot with a 5 inch barrel. Lipseys has a L frame 686+ mountain gun, it's a 7 shot 4 inch barrel weighing 35 oz and does not have the safety lock. For carry in the mountains this would be my choice of a 357. The 627 8 shot would be an...

    Leupold CDS

Or just use the MOA turret and get your velocity and BC of your bullet and develop the drop chart with that load. Same system just different measurements MOA vs Yards.

    .308 Winchester Factory Ammo Options

IMO just taking the best group and ignoring the other groups is a mistake. You should average all the groups of each load. That will give an honest answer of each load. Also shooting off a tail gate of a truck is not the best platform to use. Using a concrete bench as a platform is much more...

Buy a new 44 Magnum (Which would you buy?)

At the Missoula gun show recently I saw several older Pythons for sale. They were priced between $3200.00 and $3500.00. One was produced in 1977. In my mind those prices are just crazy.

Average age of the hunt talk crowd.

In about 3 weeks I'll be hitting 72. Still hunting solo and a lot slower.

That should be a fun gun. After you run a box of shells through it give us a report.
