    2013 Gear Updates

Well since I will be Taliban hunting for the 2013 season I won't need anything new until the 2014 season. But upon my return I will be "deployment rich" so I will be buying a new Big Agnes 15* down mummy bag Big Agnes Q-Core SL sleeping pad Vortex Razor HD 10x42 binos. New Rocket Cams for my...

This picture doesn't do justice to exactly how steep this part of the mountain was. But as promised!

We normally bone the elk meat out. But the spot on the mountain where that elk died. (I'll post a picture later) was so steep that the quarters kept sliding off of the game bags and were almost impossible to handle due to the incline of the terrain. So we didn't want to start deboning the...

So helped pack out 5 elk this year with my Longbow. I packed half of a cow boned out inside the bag. I carried boned out meat between the bag and the frame. I carried half of a spike bull bone in between the frame and bag. I strapped my muzzle loader onto the bag. The Longbow is one serious...

5 for 5 with the smokepole.

Thank you all for the support and kind words. It truly was a blessing all around. We never thought in a million years we would fill all our tags. I have to draw a tag to hunt branch antlered bulls here in eastern Washington. Glad to see that people still enjoy reading about a good old...

5 for 5 with the smokepole.

The next day found the four of us in pretty much the same area. My Dad was hunting the same spot he had been in when Tyler shot the spike the day before. My brother Karl, after making another gourmet meal consisting of breakfast burritos decided to act as an official range finder operator and...

5 for 5 with the smokepole.

This year was a special year for me. Not only was my camp blessed to fill all 5 of our tags. But, it was the first time that me, my brother (BLRMan) and my Dad were able to hunt elk and share camp together. It was truly a blessing for us all. This summer was also much different than previous...

    2012 Broadhead Review

I am a HUGE Slick Trick fan. But.... I am always tinkering and trying new stuff. So the next time I am able to head back home to WA to hunt elk I will be using the new Shuttle T Black Ops. Those things sound and look way too awesome not to try out. Plus Dan Evans seems like a really stand up giy...

    2012 Broadhead Review

Your Grim Reapers should be fine for elk as long as yoy have the enough horsepower. But I know alot of elk have been killed with pass throughs by the 1 3/8" razor tips. What's your set up like. As long as your making 60 ft lbs KE the razor tips should work fine.

    2012 Broadhead Review

I am a huge Slick Trick guy. So that being said it took a lot to switch broafheads this year. In my home state of WA where I hunt elk the Slick Trick 125 g magnum is my go to head. It still is since in WA mechanicals are illegal. This year since I'm only hunting in NY and not WA I decided I...

    Leupold Gold Ring Bino?

I hope so. I really like Leupold and like to support them especially since they make their products in the USA. But currently they don't offer binos that remotely interests me. I look forward to seeing their Jew high end binos. It's been a long wait so I hope its worth it. Thanks Bigfinn for the...

    Leupold Gold Ring Bino?

So in 2010 Leupold discontinued their Gold Ring HD binos line. They said they had.something even better to replace them. That was two years ago and nothing. I will be upgrading in 2013 to better binos and was hoping to get some Leupold HD glass. So my question is this. Does anyone have any...

    elk broadhead

I currently use Slick Trick Magnums. And its a great head. The trocar bone busting tip is made of steel. The blades are made of Mercedes knife grade steel and are as Sharp as anything I have felt. There are pictures and videos of guys shooting them into cinder blocks, digging the broadhead out...

    elk broadhead

I agree with the above post. It is a good broadhead. The blades are as Sharp as any broadhead I have tried. I did however break a blade in a Target once. I am currently using slick trick magnums right now and love them. But a broad head that is really got me thinking about switching is the new...
