Thanks for the pictures Guppy.
I can recall when we lived in Fairbanks, from '87-91. We'd drive down and drive the road back, only it seemed like we drove farther than 30 miles. It made for a long day, but was well worth it.
Greenhorn,
Grab a charter boat, preferably headed towards Hoonah/Gustavus area. That's southwest of Juneau. Great whale watching in that area, don't forget the camera.
Yes, there are black bears around there too.
Oak,
Gotta watch out for us Alaskan dudes, we're known to be assholes. ;)
I've had the same thing happen to me... beaver in, 185 out... whatever works and is cheapest is best.
You guys done good!
Nice pictures and a great hunt story.
They took ya in with a Beaver, and picked you up in a 185 (maybe a 206) guess they knew you'd only get one each. :)
Congrats Moosie on your bear!
This picture...
...looks like a sow to me. Big ass and narrow muzzle. ;) Is that the one you shot, was it a boar or sow?
I need to get out and shoot my own brownie one of these days. You pictures are providing some motivation.
Great thread, thanks!
Reading the story, the guy wasn't road hunting, he just happened to find a good ram by the road inbetween hunts.
He certainly looks to be in good shape, so hiking in would not have been an issue.
I'd put on my boots too, before dragging a downed sheep, and then starting to field dress it.
I...
Oh yeah, this picture Art got just before the ram stopped tumbling... ...it's in mid air here, and obviously dead.
Both were shot with a Cannon 20D and a huge lense. They look a little grainy to me too, but it was 325 yards to the face plant.
