Two of us drew the Rhodes Canyon hunt for Jan 31, 2009. I have talked to a few people that hunted it last year and got some tips. I would like to get some field judging tips from some of you guys that have a lot of experience with it. I personally think any mature Oryx will make a fine...

Thanks a bunch for all of the replies. I got the first alert then nothing else. I have spent the last few evenings cold calling throught the back issues of the Huntin fool and talked to about 10 guys that have been on this hunt in the last three years. They all said get there a week...
I just drew this tag with my best friend and we are trying to make some decisions about whether to go DIY as we intended when we put in (and have done for the past 12 years). Or hire a guide and go that route to maximize our chances at a top end bull.
I would really like to talk to someone...
It has to be more than 38 lbs.
In the little town I grew up in, San Saba Texas, people bring their bobcats in for pictures in the local paper. They are weighed at the feed store then the picture goes in the paper. It seems like every year they have one or two that goes over 40 lbs.
On year...
Can some one tell me what it cost to fly from Anchorage to Prince of Wales and the basic costs of a do it yourself type of trip in that area.
I have read a little about this, and I guess we would try to do a self guided deal, because the outfitters I saw were pretty pricy.

My buddy and I are thinking about going black bear hunting if the draw doesn't work out this year. We are looking at Canada guided, but I am thinking that Alaska could be a prime candidate because there are tons of black bears there, and they don't seem to be very heavily hunted.
When I was...
That's what I am looking for.
If you don't mind my asking, what does a trip like that cost once you get to Alaska. Excluding that plane ticket and your equipment.
I guess you would have to pay a transfer to get out to the little village, to fly out to the Bush, then tags and everything else...
I have a pretty good idea what it will be like, because I worked one summer at Red Dog mine East of Kotzebue and one summer in Prudhoe Bay.
Arco had a zero tollerance on working around bears. When one was in the area, they made us all get on the bus until it left the area. They kind of...
I appreciate the info. We are atleast a year away on the Caribou hunt, so I am trying not to get to excited about it. That's very useful info regarding where to fly out of and what type of plane to ask for.
I when we get serious about going, I will have to ask again.
How safe is a trip like...
On these trips like Rusts flying service offers, where they drop you off and pick you up several days later, what are the odds of taking a trophy bull????? Close to B&C.
Does a guide make all the difference, or is it fairly straight forward hunting????? Relativley simple, but still hard...
I have a suggestion that works real well on ranches but would be a tough to implement on a state wide basis.
Alot of people don't want to kill their does down here, so some of the savy ranchers make it a rule that you have to kill a doe before you can kill a buck.
What winds up happening is...
