Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

I could see an annual Elk Camp with pre made wall tent poles. This is pretty common in places I've been. I've ordered extra side poles from Cabelas to experiment on. Tried JB weld, long nuts and a short section of threaded rod and was not happy.

    Vacation ideas

Kids won't learn to travel unless you take them. There are a few things you can do to make it more tolerable.... 1) Plan one activity per day. And take as much time doing it as they want. Anything else is a spur of the moment decision 2) Make them an active part of the planning (or feel like...

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

The outside dimension is .70 on the poles and I think the ID on 3/4 emt is .75-.80. I’ve heard suggestions to put shrink wrap over the smaller piece as a shim. I’ll try one piece before I commit to more.

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

As I prepare my camp for packing in on horseback, I'm evaluating how to make things more packable. One aspect that I am looking to improve is making the side wall poles for my Alaknak 12x12 tent more compact for pack horse travel. I've noticed that the poles fit inside a 3/4" pvc pipe so I am...

What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans

Most of my outdoor plans are centered around my 3 yo mustang filly. For the spring and summer that means gathering and branding cattle and a couple organized and possibly some spur of the moment trail rides. I want to teach her good habits while her mind is pliable. Last year’s good fortune...

How old is too old to apply for physical hunts?

I know the feeling. My dad was my age when I was a Senior in High School. He did his first out of state elk hunt between age 55 and 57. But he was an active hands on dairyman at that time, still bucking hay and running canyons with dogs and weighed around 170 pounds. Old school, like "Don't...

Frank Church Wilderness to allow chain saws......

you are not wrong... But we can stand on principle and watch what we love become inaccessible, or reevaluate what our real goals are and work towards those goals with what we have available and make actual progress. Many discussions to be had about what Wilderness means and if the Act as...

Poll: How many OIL tags have you Drawn in the Last 20 years of Applying

The Two that come to mind are: 1)Valle Vidal Bull Elk New Mexico 2015 2) Tule Elk in an Archery hunt that will remain unnamed because IYKYK. 2010 Both hunts came the year after being skunked on a couple really good tags. So my advice is that things even out, and just like gambling, you have to...
