    N-Frame 329PD Air light (44 Mag) vs Gen 4 Glock 20 (10mm)

If you have the factory plastic sights and want a good upgrade that’s not too expensive look at some Ameriglo sights. I would recommend having someone with a sight pusher install them as they’re a tight fit.

    N-Frame 329PD Air light (44 Mag) vs Gen 4 Glock 20 (10mm)

As far as striker fired handguns go, the Glock actually has a really good trigger for defensive purposes. Just takes some practice to learn how to use it. I’d honestly recommend a Glock 17 or 45 in 9mm and a few thousand rounds of good practice and you’d be surprised how well you can shoot them...

Buy a new 357 Magnum (Which would you buy?)

I have an old GP100 6” I’ve been packing around the mountains since I was 16, and a 3” 686. I really like both. The Ruger in a 4” stainless would might be tough to beat.

    Pack workouts

I decided the other day that I needed to get back in mountain shape. I threw about a 90 pound wet sand bag out of the bed of my truck in my old mystery ranch, then found a steep cliff trail to hike for a few hours. A couple days later I can walk normally again. Moderation might be a better idea.

    New pack recommendations

New Exo K4 3600 just shipped from Idaho to Montana today. I’m excited to try this thing out. It’s good luck to draw my goat tag this fall.

    Montana draw 2026

Looks like another year of elkless, dark timber, grizzly infested general tag hunting for me.

    270 140gr accubond loads

The 140 Accubond is phenomenal elk medicine. Great balance of penetration and wound channel, even on hard quartering shots.

    Helle Knives

It’s not, but I’m with you on the sheep people. Blows my mind and pisses me off to see hunting influencers pimping Duckworth.

2026 SE Alaska Spring Bear Hunt

Take my dry Montana and Wyoming experience with a grain of salt, but my favorite rain jacket is a Carhartt storm defender. I’ve been out working all day in some downpours and stayed perfectly dry, I also keep it clean and refresh the DWR if necessary. If I was in Alaska I’d probably just got...

    Helle Knives

Anyone tried these and have recommendations? I love the Mora for most hunting use, the Helles seem like a similar design, just a little prettier. The fjellkniven and eggen look like damn good elk hunting knives. Those scandi-grind knives usually take a scary edge, and I like the overall...

Mountain Goat in Montana Unlimited Sheep Areas

Spent a summer in college doing the same thing, and had a similar goat experience that I was sure was a grizzly.

    270 140gr accubond loads

The 4831 has just always been a little slow in my rifle, I don’t know why. 3060 with 130s is pretty much the standard, so I’m very happy with the RL23 velocities. I’ve reached up to a little over 3000 with 150s and RL23, but backed it off a bit as I was starting to get pressure.

    270 140gr accubond loads

    I get 2950 or so with H4831. If you can get some RL22 or 23 they’re great .270 powders. I get 3050 with 140s with RL23 in a 24” barrrel.

One less pistol on my wish list

I’d love to try one suppressed. The serious gun is a 17 with an RMR and X300. It’s almost boring hitting steel past 100 with it.

One less pistol on my wish list

Those 365s are nice guns. I’m just so used to shooting Glocks that I always have to consciously fix my grip angle, so I sold mine to a buddy. G45 and G43X cover just about everything for me in 9mm now.

Buy a new 44 Magnum (Which would you buy?)

    Smith 629 4” for a carry gun.

    Rear locker decisions..

I’m curious what gear ratio it had? My pickup has 4.30, and I’ve used and liked a few 4.10 Chevy 2500s. Makes a big difference. If I had to replace mine that’s one thing I wouldn’t want to compromise on. Lots of the newer half tons are geared way too high.

    Gratuitous Fish and River Photos

I’ve been enjoying messing around with it. A big rainbow is a hell of a lot of fun on a 7 foot ultra light rod.
