I drew as well. Been seeing a good buck around that was a real dandy last year and made it through the season. Do I throw 88 grains or 180 grains at him is the question, both brand new rifles. Should be fun.
My older Glenfield 30-30 shoots into a 2 to 2.5 inch cluster at 100 yards every time. But has never been a handicap for taking mulies at reasonable shooting distances. This dandy buck was taken at approx. 125 yards or so after a long stalk in steep country. TR
My trackers name was Simms. Having guided fishing in Alaska for twenty years I had a lot of Simms gear. Mr. Simms thought he was a dandy for sure when I left him all my shirts and a light jacket.
18 years!
Wow.
Congrats on finally getting it. I can’t imagine having 18 points. Too many “lower” quality hunts to get me to use points on. I don’t have the patience to wait that long. Hopefully you kill a dandy and can do a write up for us.
Saw a dandy bull on elephant mountain wma couple year's ago during my javelina hunt.
If you're truly gonna stick to under 300 yards then shouldn't matter. I would take whatever gun I shot best. If no noticeable difference then yeah the Whelen is cooler.
That is a dandy Naknek bow. The new bridge is kinda handy, the bears use to get on the old foot bridge. There is a deep slot about 400 yards above you on the lodge side, an outside corner, below the first big gravel bar. Good spot for big char.
