Dog repellent
Had/have a similar situation with our neighbors and their dog. She owns the home, he's the new man, brings his large dog to the relationship, it thinks it owns the entire neighborhood. Youth rifle?
I may have mentioned my regard in previous posts for the .257 Roberts, but if you could find it in a lefty, your kid would be set with a pretty sweet and extremely capable firearm. -

Have one, and yes, I think it's a capable western deer rifle. Mine has been killing Pa. whitetails for 40 years in mine and my kids' hands and probably 25 years prior in my grampys' hands. The Partition in the Federal Premium 120 grain I would think would be a reasonable round out to 250 or so. -
