Do you handload,if you do try the 180 gr barnes-X in the 300 wsm,they work realy well out of my 300 WSM.But some rifles are very touchy when shooting barnes bullets.

Having used both calibers on Montana elk,wich were no where near the bodies size you are talking(600 lbs the biggest)I would go with the .338 win Mag.

I would go with the 358 Norma.
Why? cause I always like a little more horse power.There is no doubt that eith will be good elk guns.It's mostly personal choice than need.

Thats a high fence elk.I see them like that almost every weekend I go to my In-laws.Their neighbors have a high fenced elk farm,and their big bulls look almost exactly same horn color.

What Moosie is saying the the 6 point ain't a 6x6,he's probaly something like a 6x4 or 6x5.
