My favorite choice for kids, women and sensitive shooters is the 6.5 Swede (6.5 X 55). It's easy to shoot and has been killing critters large and small for more years than I've been alive and that's saying something. Winchester builds a very nice Mod. 70 Featherweight in that caliber and Sako, Tika, and CZ are also available.
