WY & Feds make a Deal on Wolves

1 pointer you’re the one that said;

Wolves have already been legally shot by landowners in ID. Since ID and MT have approved plans they are allowed that luxury, even if they don't have 'trophy hunts' yet.

And I’ve quoted you twice on it. You used a semantic argument, and I responded with sarcasm because your point was off topic. The states are not controlling wolf populations by general public hunting in Idaho and Montana, and I made that point when I said;

Replace the word “shot” with the phrase “publicly hunted”, my point is the same.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah Buzz, the old “demand proof argument”.
Backpedaling fearlessly I see.
I’ve got a better idea, you prove you point. Show me where a USF&W official publicly indicates that it’s OK with them, and will not slow down delisting if the state of Wyoming leaves better than 90% of the state for "no protection/shoot at will status” regarding wolves. The statement must pre date the current cave in to validate your point.

The states are not controlling wolf populations by general public hunting in Idaho and Montana,
I agree with this statement. Maybe I was the dense one...

PS- IMO general public hunting will not control wolf populations in any state.

I read somewhere that the Feds smoked 44 wolves in Wyoming last year. Bet more than a few came from the "predator zone". Having "hunters" do the dirty deed would be better than having taxpayer funded hired guns doing it IMO.

Backpeddling Buzz.......you want to take me up on my bet, whether or not Wyoming wins their suit?

Just for sheer fun, I'll take your bet given the caveat that them dropping the suit is considered a loss.

I just feel that having a plan accepted by both sides hurts their chances.

You're on Pointer. The only way Wyoming is going to drop their suit is if delisting is an iron clad done deal. If that's the case, then I wouldn't mind losing the bet.

Pointer I agree with you that the hunting won't necessarily control them. I think they will sell a bunch of licenses at first, then it will taper off. After that it will be the die hard predator guys who hunt them.

The good thing, and argument could be made against this, but I think that fear of humans that could be put in them from the hunting would be an all around good thing.

I dont think they'll sell that many licenses. Most of the keystone drinking bar-stool rednecks who claim they'll shoot wolves on sight wont want to spend a few bucks on a license...takes away from the beer money.

On 4/30/07, a rancher west of Springdale, MT killed a yearling wolf with a shoot-on-site permit. The original depredation of a yearling heifer took place on the 17th. On the 25th, Rost (WS) captured and collared an adult male wolf near the depredation site. MFWP/WS will monitor the area and control actions are concluded.

This quote is from the US Wildlife Service wolf recovery page, I believe the bet was over either Idaho or Montana killing wolves legally before Wyoming.

That being said, Bigmouthedewebreeder owes me a case of Coors Regular in the bottle. Bring it to a Ravalli Co. Wildlife Ass. meeting.

BHR- Nothing like a friendly bet... ;) Now, how am I too get it to you IF I lose? Also, what's your poision? I'd have look long and hard in UT for Ham's... :D

Pointer,

If you lose, you could drink that case of Ham's and tell me how good it was......or give it to Buzz to satisfy my beer debt to him.......or get some good stuff and bring it up here on your next Montana hunting or fishing trip.....or......

Shoot's-Self,

Sorry, can't help you out bud. At least now I know why you can't follow the wolf delisting process.

BHR- I'll take you up on that last option if I lose! So, what are we gonna hunt or fish for when I bring up the beer?

Even Better Idea

Pointer,

We could meet halfway in Wyoming in the newly established predator zone. Test out some new varmint loads I've been working on, and sample some of the fine Southwest Wyoming micro brews!

Ramitupyrarse,

I follow the delisting just fine, but the bet was, wyoming would be hunting wolves before Montana and Idaho, now as I posted earilier, ranchers are legally hunting wolves here and Idaho, not wyoming yet. Now doesn't that fullfill the bet on the subject, or are you a shallow mouthy (wanta bet) kull.

I believe you lost another one, man up and pay your bill. I'll promise not to bet you again for at least another month. You could also drop it off at my job site, you drive by me everyday on the golf course rd.

Baiting with cattle is not considered hunting in Montana or Idaho S. S.. Sorry, you lose.
I know some folks that 'bait' elk with cattle!!

I'd meet in SW WY for a bit of a hunt. Heck, I'm not even picky, I'll let you pick the critter to chase....and bring the beer! ;)
