WY 34-1 Information

Fishing for anyone who has information on Wyo unit 34. I'm in the process of trying to decide if I should or shouldn't try for this unit as a resident, the pro's and con's. I've been doing a lot of research on this unit and it looked promising until I realized that access to a lot of significant chunks of public is locked by private with zero or single access points miles and miles from where I intend to hunt. Looking for anyone who has hunted this area and any advice you can provide. I don't have an issue with approaching land owners with a non-monetary deal to gain access such as trading a helping hand for access, but I do refuse to pay. This is my dilemma, is this unit worth it without paying for access? Anyone have any suggestions on access points off of the national forest? I don't mind making a hike and setting up a spike camp, but prefer to go back to the comfort of my pillow top bed in my camper...I'm soft like that. I've all but given up on this unit due to the lack of access and possibly going to stick to putting in for 7-1 again, but figured my chances were much higher in 34. Thanks in advance for any help.

I hunted there last year for the first time with a friend who's hunted it many years. Saw a decent number of elk (15 or so) during a week of archery hunting, despite the substantial number of other hunters sharing the small chunk of forest land. Heard VERY few bugles (only one I remember that was definitely an elk) and never had a shot come together. Went back during rifle for a few days and didn't see an elk. In terms of crowdedness, it is probably a little better than some general areas, but there are many general areas that have higher elk densities and more public.

Thanks for the reply, I've pretty much scratched this area. I've put in for other areas for years and have yet to draw a type 1 tag, saw the high draw rate for this unit and quickly figured out why. I'm probably going to do the same thing I've been doing, keep putting in for a type 1 elsewhere and then pick up a cow tag. I highly doubt I'll draw, so it'll be back to general areas. Good luck.
