Alaska guys... what's a big wolf? Here's a MT wolf and I'm wondering the size. The walking stride length was around 56"-60".. the length of my rifle plus a foot. I've seen a lot of wolf tracks, but this one seemed like a pretty good sized one.

After 17 years in Alaska, I saw my first wolf a couple weeks ago.

Too bad it was about 1000 yards away and out of season. :(

Greenhorn, the male that made that track will go around 125lbs. (the female usually top out at around 90lbs) i'm no Tom Brown but I have seen alot of tracks--dollars to donuts thats a big male

While I was bear hunting in AK last month the outfitter caught a nice black wolf in his snare set. We weighed it right at 85 lbs.

From what I've seen, I'd say that's about average.

125 lbs would be a whopper. I think even the average ones have some pretty huge feet. I know I was rather surprised how huge their tracks in the snow were.

Steiny, good point--I should've mentioned that wolves are like bears in that their spring weight's are typically less then their fall weight.

A 4-6 year old male wuff with a foot that size will go well over 100lbs by mid summer
