Garfield County hosting public meeting on wolf reintroduction Community event with CPW takes place in New Castle on December 17 GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Garfield County is hosting a public community meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) regarding wolf reintroduction in Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin counties.
The public is encouraged to attend and provide comments during the meeting, which takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Hope Church, 880 Castle Valley Blvd., New Castle. The reintroduction measure, known as Proposition 114, was narrowly passed by Colorado voters in 2020, 51 to 49 percent, but was opposed in Garfield County, 63 to 37 percent.
The measure required CPW to create a plan to reintroduce and manage gray wolves on lands west of the Continental Divide in Colorado no later than December 31, 2023. Ten wolves were reintroduced into the state in December of 2023 by CPW and the next release is slated to take place in either Garfield, Eagle, or Pitkin County.
