Pernsteiner was one of four Wisconsin residents to draw a 2019 elk hunting tag in a lottery held by the Department of Natural Resources. One other state tag was awarded through a raffle held by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Halfway through the second regulated elk hunting season, success stories include a Medford woman who became the first female to take an elk.
