I just started hunting last year. I did a bit of archery elk hunting and sat within range of a bull for several hours but only had a cow tag. Then I did a 0 point antlerless mule deer hunt in Colorado unit 181; this was a pumpkin patch and a half, but I did end up getting a doe on the last day. This year I'm doing a 3rd season bull elk rifle hunt in unit 78. I'm trying to do some e-scouting, but I'm not sure if I should be looking at winter range because it's been cold the last week and we've had a bit of snow, or if I should still be looking up high (around 10k feet) in the summer range.
My plan is to try to identify some areas in both that I think might hold bulls but I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this for me or at least give me some sort of information that might help me make the decision on where to start looking.
