So, I bag the office a couple hours early, come home, tell the wife how much I appreciate her, grab some chocolate, and turn on the TV.

Bubba network is playing "Expedition Safari" by the Safari Club. Opening the show is a guy named Mike Rogers talking about the importance of hunters to conservation, how hunters have restored game animals, and how whitetail numbers are now ....blah.....balah....blah.

Then the narrator tells us, "Join Mike as he goes to the world renowned Sanctuary in the whitetail state of Michigan, to chase the wiley trophy whitetail," or something similar to that.

So, I Google "sanctuary Michigan hunting" and find the site.

Quiet a conservation project they have going on there at the Sanctuary. Excerpts from their website.

THE SECRET OF SANCTUARY

For almost 20 years, the researchers at Purina Mills have been working with The Sanctuary to provide world-class nutrition to grow world-class deer. And because nutrition is such an integral part of growing big deer, Purina Mills¨ Deer Chow¨ truly is the secret to their amazing animals.

What makes Purina Deer Chow better than any deer feed on the market? It starts with unequalled Purina Mills Research - the foundation of their newly formulated Deer Chow diets. And the results speak for themselves: optimal antler growth speed, size and mass in bucks, high fertility in does and low mortality in fawns. All levels no other form of nutrition can produce.

Purina Mills devotion to product excellence and innovation continues today, with their AntlerMax Technology.

ANTLERMAX TECHNOLOGY

AntlerMax is actually a protein technology. This patented nutritional delivery system provides a substantially higher quality protein to growing deer antlers. Simply put, feeding Deer Chow with AntlerMax will result in antler growth of unprecedented speed, size and mass. But there's more to the story than bigger, faster. AntlerMax delivers proprietary types and ratios of essential trace minerals that specifically target the needs of growing antler tissues, resulting in optimal antler density and strength.

My dog might get Purina Dog Chow. And now Deer Chow is used for "wiley whitetails." Damn, had I only known this "Secret of the Sanctuary" I could be shooting some real wiley whitetails.

You can buy whatever "wiley trophy whitetail" you want. Just need to have your checkbook handy, depending upon whether you want a Gold buck or management buck. Just don't pull the trigger if your check won't clear.

All Gold Medal Hunts are five-day, 1x1 guided adventures.

Prices for Gold Medal Hunts range from $8,500 - $17,500, depending solely upon the dates chosen within the season.

Over the last three years, Gold Medal bucks harvested have posted scores that range from 150 – 220 SCI.

And, though I was first skeptical that these really were "wiley whitetails," they comforted me with the following information. If Larry says so, they must be wiley.... right? ;)

Renowned biologist and outdoor writer Larry Weishuhn said that these were some of the smartest and most elusive bucks he has ever hunted.

Funny or sick, not sure.

Fin, I'm surprised at you. I thought you would know that feeding any deer purina will make it the wiliest thing around. Put it in a 3 acre pasture and now you have the ultimate whitetail hunting experince. :D And for only $17,500. Sounds like a smokin deal.

Ah yes, The Sanctuary has been around for quite a while. I always thought it peculiar that they called a high fence hunting operation by that name.

Thanks for the post Fin. I'm now in the mood to go down to the Duck pond on the MSU campus and shoot me a wiley mallard. Hopefully the little children will stand back so that I don't injure anyone at the "santuary". You should see all the ducks down there. No really:rolleyes:

Doesn't say much for Texas, does it?

It was amusing walking by the MSU duck pond each spring, watching the gals feign disgust as the drakes pushed the hens' heads underwater.hump
